Norman Mitchell Driver was born on 27 August 1918 in Sheffield, England.
His father was a mining engineer and his mother a concert singer. He appeared in repertory theatre and with the Royal Shakespeare Company. During World War II he served with the Royal Army Medical Corps. He then made many television appearances and appeared in over sixty films.
Norman Mitchell died on 19 March 2001, (four weeks after the death of his son, actor Christopher Mitchell), he was 82.
